Nyaya Darshan
The Vedic philosophy of logic and reasoning — the sixteen categories of knowledge, the means of valid knowledge (Pramana) and their application to daily life.
Worship, learning and community — the living practice of the Vedic way of life at the Arya Samaj of Melbourne.
The Satsang of APSASM is held once a month. It is a gathering for prayer, Hawan, Vedic discourse and open discussion, where members and visitors come together to study the teachings of the Vedas and apply them to everyday life.
Recent Satsangs have included workshops on Vedic philosophy, presentations by the children of the Samaj, and reflective discussion (Shastrarth) on the nature of God and Dharma.
Everyone is warmly welcome. For the next Satsang’s location and timing, please contact our Secretary.
The Hawan is the Vedic fire ceremony in which offerings are made into the sacred fire (Agni) while chanting mantras — a practice of worship, gratitude, purification of the environment and inner discipline.
At APSASM, the mantras are explained so that everyone present can understand and participate with meaning.
Yajna is at the heart of Vedic worship. Our gatherings include the daily Agnihotra as well as Pakshik (fortnightly) Yajna on special occasions, performed in the tradition taught by Maharishi Dayanand.
Through Yajna we express devotion to Ishwar (God), give thanks, and remind ourselves of the Vedic ideal of selfless giving for the good of all.
“There is no higher happiness than the contemplation of Satya.” — Maharishi Swami Dayanand Saraswati
A core part of every Satsang is the study of our scriptures, led by the Purohit and members, with discussion to deepen understanding.
The Vedic philosophy of logic and reasoning — the sixteen categories of knowledge, the means of valid knowledge (Pramana) and their application to daily life.
A study of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, beginning with the Samadhi Pada — the science of stilling the mind and realising the Self.
Workshops on the Upanishads, including the Taittiriya Upanishad, exploring the deeper philosophy of the Vedas.
Study of the ten characteristics of Dharma — Dhriti, Kshama and the rest — that define noble conduct.
Reading and reflection on Maharishi Dayanand’s magnum opus, The Light of Truth.
Guided discussion and debate on Vedic concepts, so that understanding is reached through reason, not blind belief.
Our young members take an active part in every Satsang — presenting on the principles of the Arya Samaj, the qualities of Dharma and Vedic values. The program nurtures confidence, character and a love of learning rooted in the Vedas.
From time to time we host visiting Vedic scholars for special Ved Prachaar programs of discourses, Hawan and Satsang. Recordings of past programs, including the lectures of Pt. Ved Prakash Shrotriya, are available in our resources.
